The Secretary of State1 may by regulations2 make provision for recording in national police records convictions for such offences as are specified in the regulations3; and, for the purposes of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, 'recordable offence' means any offence to which such regulations apply4.
Accordingly, there may be recorded in national police records convictions for5, and cautions6 given in respect of7, any offence punishable with imprisonment8; and there may also be recorded
